Survived a bombing raid on Berlin during the closing stages of World War II and was buried alive under rubble for five days before being rescued.

Belgian-born German leading lady of the 1940s, trained under Louise Dumont and Gustav Lindemann. On stage from 1931, initially in Zurich, later in Vienna and Hamburg. Subsequently concentrated on film appearances and often cast as emancipated professional women in melodramas, thrillers and Heimatfilms. Retired from acting in 1953.

Married in succession to two brothers: first, the actor Ernst von Klipstein and, later, his brother Dieter, a West German professional army officer.
