German composer, conductor, teacher and violinist, born 14 November 1719 in Augsburg, Germany and died 28 May 1787 in Salzburg, Austria. Father of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Composer and an internationally-recognized instructor. His treatise on violin instruction, "Violinschule" (1756), was translated into several languages and became a standard text throughout Europe.
His wife and his mother shared the same name, Anna Maria.
Upon her death, Constanze Weber, whom Wolfgang married against Leopolds wishes, was buried beside Leopold in Salzburg. Not surprisingly, Constanze and Leopold did not get along.
