Leigh A. Wiener was a photographer noted for his portraits of famous people and historic events. Over his 40-year career Wiener's work appeared in many newspapers and magazines, including Life, Paris Match, the Los Angeles Times, and the Saturday Evening Post. Several of his portraits were acquired by and are displayed in the US's National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC. He was just beginning to attain the public acclaim that includes retrospective exhibitions of his work, when he died of Sweet's syndrome, a rare blood disease caused by exposure to radiation. It is believed he contracted this while covering atomic tests for Life Magazine in Nevada, USA in 1958.
