He was awarded the Australian Centenary Medal in the 2001 Queens New Years Honours List for his services to raising public awareness of the importance of science and technology.
He was awarded the A.M. (Member of the Order of Australia) in the 2006 Queens New Years Honours List for his services to the community through promoting greater understanding and knowledge of the application of science to daily living as an author and science commentator on radio and television.
