British leading lady, the daughter of a colonel in the Indian Army.

Had a reputation as a tomboy. She attended thirteen different schools in India and was expelled from ten of them.

Learned to ski in the Himalayas. In 1938, she entered and won a womens skiing competition, but ended up being disqualified since she was still considered a child.

Made her theatrical debut at the West End in the early 1950s.
