American painter, born 1951
Prior to establishing his film career, Julian Schnabel made a name for himself (throughout the 1980s) as a "neo-expressionist" artist/painter (some of his paintings involved smashed plates glued to wooden panels). His work has been exhibited at art galleries around the world, and he has been known as the "self-proclaimed lion of the New York art world".
His wife Olatz Lpez Garmendia appeared as Reinaldos mother in Before Night Falls , also serving as the movies executive producer.

Did the paintings, photos and art direction for the album "By the way" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Father of five children: Stella Schnabel , Vito Schnabel and Lola Schnabel with his first wife Jacqueline; the twins Cy Schnabel and Olmo Schnabel with his present wife Olatz Lpez Garmendia. All of his children appeared on Before Night Falls .
