Biography

In the role of Commando Cody, Judd Holdren patrolled America's threatened skies after actors Tristram Coffin and George Wallace hung up their flying suits. Holdren played the airborne hero in "Zombies of the Stratosphere" and also in "Commando Cody, Sky Marshal of the Universe", which was shown theatrically as well as on TV. Holdren acted in films from the late '40s through the '50s, then gave up the business and began making his living in the insurance business. He died in 1974.

Dropped out of high school and moved to Nebraska, where he studied acting at the Omaha Playhouse.

According to Laura Wagner in her article on Holdren in the Winter 2012/13 issue of Films of the Golden Age, when film and TV offers dwindled in 1960, he retired and became a bookkeeper for a Hollywood commercial agent and then worked as an insurance agent.

Never married.

Died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was buried at Valhalla Memorial Park in North Hollywood.

Was one of ten children born to an Iowa farmer and his wife.

Served in the Coast Guard during WWII.

Is interred at Valhalla Memorial Park, North Hollywood, California, USA.
