Josef Egger remained active as an actor till to his death.

The actor Josef Egger came to the theater at an early age, first as a secretary at the age of 18, one year later as head clerk at the Stadttheater Leoben. Besides this activity he also played smaller roles time and again and in this way he developed his passion for acting. In the next years he played at different Austrian theaters, often impersonating funny roles.

He entered the film business in the middle of the 30s where he often played support roles at the side of other movie stars.

Besides acting he was a well-known music hall comedian, and he was famous for doing "tricks" with his beard.

He appeared as a character actor in many western movies including the first two films of the "Dollars Trilogy" directed by Sergio Leone, A Fistful of Dollars and For a Few Dollars More , shortly before his death.

From the beginning of the 30s he also got engagements at German theaters.

He continued his film career successfully after the war but remained bounded to support roles. In several movies he played at Hans Mosers side who already occupied the place of the comical coot and dislodged Josef Egger to the second row.
