Biography

John Zacherle and Meg Griffin. However, in January of 1996, the station switched to an alternative rock format and hired all new disc jockeys. He was inducted into the Horror Host Hall of Fame in 2011, and has lived in a one-bedroom, rent-controlled apartment in Manhattan for the past 50 years.

As "The Cool Ghoul", he was the first host/performer of WPIX TV Ch.11 NYCs "Mighty Hercules Cartoon Show", which was seen weekday evenings on WPIX TV Ch.11 in NYC from Monday, September 9, 1963 to Friday, November 15, 1963. He hosted "The Three Stooges Show" weekday evenings on Ch.11 from Monday January 6, 1964 to Friday January 31, 1964.

Had a top ten hit with the novelty song "Dinner With Drac" in 1958

With ghoulish makeup as" Zacherle" hosted several rock concerts in NYCs Central Park in the 1960s and 70s.

He was a heralded DJ on pioneer progressive rock station WNEW FM, NYC in the 1970s.

He was the first well known host of TVs horror film genre. From 1957-1958 , as " Roland", he hosted "Shock Theater" in his ghoulish makeup and attire on WCAU TV in Philadelphia , Pa. In 1959, he commuted from his home in Phila. Pa., to NYC where he hosted WABC TVs "Zacherle at Large".

Inducted into the Horror Host Hall of Fame in 2011.
