Biography

John Gabriele began his career in 1978 directing music videos while at his school Long Island College in Brooklyn . Subsequently he produced his own half hour cable TV show the following year . "The Shortwave Show" aired on the newly formed Manhattan Cable Network in 1979 . It was a comedy/music variety show modeled somewhat after the popular new show " Saturday Nite Live " . The show aired weekly at 10:30 Saturday nights ,a half hour before Saturday Nite Live . In 1980 John graduated from Long Island University with a BFA . Soon after while employed as a graphic artist ,he found himself doing paste up mechanical work for M.D. Magazine and not very thrilled with the it . Since his brief introduction to television at LIU , he longed for something a little bit more active than working strictly as a graphic artist. ,so ,tho really only still just out of school , and employed at Gendell Grafix , he read a book about film making . A book which changed the coarse of his life . A book about film making... It was then he chose to change direction and focus on a career in the film industry . He soon quit his job as a graphic artist , and began looking for a way into the film making industry . In little time he gravitated towards the Grip Department . While working on his first film technician in the grip department .Today however he no longer is officially affiliated with any union local, tho he still does work quite often on the Local 1 and Local 4 Iatse projects as a stagehand . Upon leaving the ranks of the union however , he has decided, as a filmmaker , to take his skills and experience , and apply them towards becoming more of a creative entity within the industry . Since he has broadened his scope of personal application in the film business to that of a creative entity ,now interested in producing , directing , and shooting, as well as continuing along with his long career as a technician Key Gripping . In 2014 he directed the Off Broadway play " How to Save a World ? " written by Yael Ginberg . He also continues to direct music videos . At this time he is seeking finance to direct a feature film written by friend, and partner , the journalist, and author, Stephen Witt , entitled "Lynched" . A film inspired by the only lynching of a black man that has ever taken place in New York state . John can be contacted at 917 415 9117
