Biography

Classically trained , which became a surprise hit in 1989. Cale continued his solo writing and producing, but reunited with the Velvet Underground in 1992 for a tour, and a live album. With admirers in both the rock and classical worlds, Cale has secured a place for himself in popular music.

Played electric viola, bass, organ, and vibraphone with the Velvet Underground. After quitting the group Cage became a seminal producer, recording the highly influential first albums of The Stooges, Patti Smith , The Modern Lovers, and associate Nico.

Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (as a member of the Velvet Underground) in 1996.

Married fashion designer Betsey Johnson in 1968; the wedding was delayed when Cale came down with hepatitis and had to go to the hospital. Photos of the wedding later appeared in "Vogue" magazine.

Born exactly one week after The Velvet Underground bandmate Lou Reed.

Is portrayed by Patrick Wilson in Factory Girl .

Actress Eden Cale is his only daughter.

He was awarded the OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2010 Queens Birthday Honours List for his services to Music and to the Arts.
