John Bolton is an award-winning filmmaker from Vancouver, Canada preoccupied with revelation, consolation and transcendence, sometimes even in that order. He produces, writes and directs dramas, documentaries, performing arts pieces and the occasional disaster film through his production company Opus 59 Films. John's recent films include the feature length "musical docudrama" _Aim for the Roses .

In 2012, Bolton was a soloist with the NY Philharmonic.

The son of a fireman, he grew up in the working-class neighborhood of Yale Heights and won a scholarship to the McDonogh School in Ownings Mills, Maryland, graduating in 1966. He also ran the schools Students for Goldwater campaign in 1964. He then attended Yale University, where he shared classes with his friend Clarence Thomas , and was a contemporary of Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton at Yale Law School. He was a member of the Yale Political Union and he earned a B.A. summa cum laude in 1970 and a J.D. in 1974.

He supported the Vietnam War and enlisted in the Maryland Army National Guard, but did not serve in Vietnam.

Father of a daughter, Jennifer Sarah Bolton.

His wife, Gretchen Smith Bolton, has degrees from Wellesley College and New York University and lives in Bethesda, Maryland with her husband.

He is a Republican and a member of the Lutheran Church.
