Biography

Originally from Montreal, Jim Donovan has made Toronto his new home base to continue a directing career that spans over 25 years. After a start in music videos and spots, Jim moved into episodic television and feature films, shooting for producers here and internationally for networks such as CTV, CBC, CBS, Universal TV, MTV, LMN, NatGeo, Gaumont, Discovery, Fox Family, Nickelodeon and Showcase. Over the years, Jim's signature has evolved into delivering authentic, intense performances with a distinctive visual flare. His work has been recognized at the DGC Awards, the Genies and the CSA's. 3 Seasons, his second feature, won multiple international awards, including the Borsos Award for Best Canadian Feature at the 2008 Whistler Film Festival, and multiple nominations at the 2010 Genie Awards including for Best Picture. He won the 2013 Canadian Screen Award for Best Direction in a TV series for Flashpoint. In 2014, his episode of Cracked, Ghost Dance, was nominated for Best TV Drama at the DGC Awards. His limited series Le Clan aired on SRC in 2016 to rave reviews, and is now being adapted for the US market by ITV in collaboration with acclaimed producer Christina Wayne. Recently Jim was finishing post-production a six-part mini-series for SRC, Le Siège. He continues to develop projects both at home and internationally in Film and television as writer-director.
