During his junior year at NYU film school (for screenwriting), Jerry went to Los Angeles, California, and decided to try out for two TV pilots: "Sliders" and a new Fox show called "Party of Five" . He spent a single day in L.A. and landed the Bailey role in "Party of Five" , but before he could get back to New York, the studios first choice for "Sliders" backed out. Stuck a day before shooting without a lead, they begged Jerry to fill in. The rest is teen-idol history.

While practicing his lines for Stand by Me , was completely impressed that, as an 11-year-old, he was being allowed to swear.

Worked with River Phoenix in Stand by Me , and Sean Patrick Flanery in Body Shots . Both Phoenix and Flannery have played the young Indiana Jones.

While attending NYU, he was saber captain of the varsity fencing team. He was ranked as high as #17 in the country.

The Drambuie Pursuit takes place once a year and includes an archery contest on the first day and then a second day that includes kayaking, a castle run, boating, mountain biking, rock-climbing, rafting, cross-country biking, off-road buggy racing and canoing.

It wasnt until 10 years after costarring in "Stand By Me" , before Jerry OConnell got his first starring movie role as "Joe" in the cult classic "Joes Apartment". This is the only feature film the the late "Don Ho" ever acted in and the first ever feature film produced by MTV Networks.

Because of his cameo in Scary Movie 5, spoofing the Shades of Grey novels, he is technically the first person to have played Christian Grey in a feature film.

Provided the voice of the original Fawcett Captain Marvel (now known as Shazam) for Justice League and the DC Showcase short Superman/Shazam: The Return of Black Adam , and later chosen to provide the voice of Superman for Justice League: Throne of Atlantis , two characters who are known among fans for being unofficial "rivals" due to DCs infamous lawsuit against Fawcett claiming Captain Marvel/Shazam was too similar to Superman.

One of four actors to appear in both the Scream franchise and its parody, the Scary Movie franchise. The other three are: Anthony Anderson , Jenny McCarthy , and Tori Spelling.
