Jeffrey Howard Archer, Baron Archer of Weston-super-Mare (born 15 April 1940) is an English author and former politician.He was a Member of Parliament and deputy chairman of the Conservative Party, and became a life peer in 1992. His political career, having suffered several controversies, ended after a conviction for perverting the course of justice and his subsequent imprisonment. Writes all his stories with a felt tip pen

Despite his criminal conviction at the Old Bailey, he retained his title of Lord Archer.

(July 19, 2001) Began a four year jail sentence for perjury and perverting the course of justice, relating back to his successful 1987 libel action against the Daily Star tabloid newspaper. He was released in 2003 after serving half of his sentence.

The former MP and Conservative Party chairman was made a life peer by John Major s government in 1992.

His mother, Lola Cook, was born in Bristol in 1913 and lived in Sefton Park Road during her school years.
