Biography

Jackie Torrens is a writer, actor, director and documentary filmmaker known for her strong visual style, empathetic portrayal of her subjects, and a keen appreciation for the offbeat. Her Peep Media documentary films include Small Town Show Biz: 2 Dreams from a Harbourtown . For 3 seasons Jackie has played social worker Drucie MacKay in the OUTtv mini-series Sex and Violence, a role that nominated her for Best Actress in a Drama at the Canadian Screen Awards. She won an Actra Best Supporting Actress award for her work in the feature film Across the Line. Torrens' radio documentary The Poet Laureate of Youth Now, about a young poet in prison for 2nd degree murder, won an Atlantic Journalism award. Her radio documentary Camp Mini Ha Ha, about miniaturist artists, received a CBC Award of Excellence.
