Trivia

Entered the industry in 1923 with First National Hollywood.

Father of Troy Martin.

In The Legend of Ben Hall scene where Hall vomits from the pain of having a bullet extracted from his arm, Martin actually vomited during the filming of the scene. Not wanting to risk it looking fake, he took an ice bath to produce the bodys shock response, chain-smoked tobacco to induce nausea, and finally drank a curdled concoction of oats, milk and orange juice right before rolling the cameras to capture Hall really vomiting for the scene.

After trialing several different ways to portray Ben Halls permanent limp in The Legend of Ben Hall, Martin ended up wearing a large knee brace underneath his clothes for the majority of the shoot. He was also reported to have maintained this limp for the entire duration of the filming period, leading to many crew members assuming it was his natural gait.
