Biography

Former vocalist for the Javelins and Episode Six, Ian Gillan joined 'Deep Purple' . Deep Purple MK VIII did a world tour for "Bananas", and went to work on their 18th studio album, "Rapture of the Deep", released in November 2005. Ian released "Gillan's Inn" in 2006, and is touring with Deep Purple.

Presented with the Medal of Honour from the Armenian president, for his support after an earthquake which took place in Armenia in December 1988.

Went to the Acton County Grammar School. Wife Bron and daughter Grace.

Lives in Sussex, England, UK. Used to live in a huge mansion near Wallingford, which now has been converted to The Springs Hotel and Golf complex (North Stoke, Oxfordshire). It had a guitar shaped pool.

Was the lead singer for Black Sabbath in 1983, recording only one album ("Born Again") with the band. His tenure with Black Sabbath led some critics to nickname the group "Deep Sabbath."

(January 2003) Recording a new Deep Purple studio album in LA. Due to be released on Aug 1, 2003.

(August 2004) On tour with Deep Purple in support of the album "Bananas".

(March 2005) Recording the retrospective album ("Gillans Inn") covering 40 years in rock business. Due to be released later that year. The recording started probably around mid Feb and lasted until April.

(August 2006) On tour with Deep Purple, supporting their new record "Rapture of the Deep".

Gillan was born in the Chiswick Maternity Hospital (it was demolished in 2009) in Chiswick, Middlesex (now in London).
