Won Broadways 1987 Tony Award, his lyrics with Alain Boublil and the music of Claude-Michel Schnberg as Best Score for "Les Misrables."
He was awarded the OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2011 Queens New Years Honours List for his services to music. He was the lyricist for the musical adaptation of Victor Hugos novel, "Les Miserables.".
