Though the spelling is exactly the same, her stage name bears no connection to screen legend Hedy Lamarr.
Auditioned for the role of Dorothy Wheeler in Valentine , but the role eventually went to Jessica Capshaw. However, director Jamie Blanks still wanted Hedy in the film. In a meeting, they looked at each other, and both said "Ruthie".
Her husband, Marine Corps Reservist, Major Gary Robert Fullerton, was a pilot on an F-18 Hornet attached to VMFA-134 during a training flight. His aircraft collided with another F-18 aircraft on July 21, 2004 during training near Arlington, Oregon. Both crew members were killed. He is buried at the Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, California.
