Brother of Denise Pelletier.

In 1998, he was awarded the Prix Denise-Pelletier, one of the 11 Prix du Qubec which recognize cultural and scientific achievements for French-speaking Canadians. This particular prize is named for his late sister, a noted actress of the Quebec stage, and was given in recognition of Gilles lifetime of accomplishment in the performing arts.

1964 - A co-founder of the Nouvelle Compagnie thtrale, a Canadian organization devoted to making live theater performances available to young people. During a 15-year period, he served as administratve director and later artistic director, giving up much of his career as a stage performer for this goal.

He was awarded the O.C. (Officer of the Order of Canada) on July 11, 1988 for his services to Canadian-French Drama in Canada.

He was a sailor during the summer, navigating on his sailboat on the Saint-Laurent. He thus didnt work much on movies at that time, preferring his hobby. He went in one of his trips to Harrington Harbour and told the "Grande Sduction" film producing team about that place.
