British screenwriter and director
A former documentary film maker for the Ministry of Information, also playwright and stage producer. He was educated at Glasgow University. He worked as a screenwriter from the late 1930s and graduated to directing the following decade, specialising first in comedies and subsequently in low-budget action and sci-fi subjects.
