Geraldine James started her career in fashion as a contemporary designer buyer, and from fashion she moved to home and gift. Geraldine soon developed a passion for collecting and finding the most unusual and beautiful things. She now works as a home buying manager at Selfridges and, as part of her role, spends time traveling extensively to find exciting new products for the store.
She was awarded the OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2003 Queens Birthday Honours List for her services to Drama.
She was nominated for Broadways 1990 Tony Award as Best Actress (Play) for portraying Portia in Shakespeares "The Merchant of Venice".
She has one daughter, Ellie.

Despite having a striking resemblance to Vanessa Redgrave , they are not related. Although Geraldine appeared in The Fever alongside Redgrave and her daughter Joely Richardson , and also played the cousin of Joely Richardsons character in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo .
Her niece Zoe Buckman is married to David Schwimmer.
Geraldine James is left-handed.
