Making his debut as theater director in 1972, he founded the Teatro dellElfo in Milan, where he directed several plays until 1989.
Studied at the Accademia del Piccolo Teatro in Milan.
Longtime companion of Rita Rabassini. Shes the former wife of Diego Abatantuono , who acted in many of Gabrieles movies and is a close friend.
Supports Inter Milan.
Academy Award winner for his movie Mediterraneo , the Best Foreign Language Film in 1991.
