Brother of Margi Clarke and Angela Clarke

Was briefly engaged to actress Elinor Fair until she left him to marry Thomas Daniels, another aviator.

Clarke and a friend, Mark Owen, were flying in Clarkes two-seat private plane to Kernville, CA, to visit a retired aviator friend, Fred Tomick, at his farm. As a joke, Clarke was going to drop a bag of manure fertilizer on his barn before landing. However, the bag lodged behind the controls and Tomick watched in horror as the plane drove directly into the ground, killing both Clarke and Owen.
