Trivia

Half-brother of Ansio Campos and Maria Teresa Campos (from his mother first marriage) and brother of Helena Maria, Vera, Ana Maria, Paulo, Marina, Roberto and Ronald Suplicy.

Son of Filomena Matarazzo and Paulo Cochrane Suplicy.

Father-in-law of Maria Paula.

Father of Supla (b. 1966), Andr Suplicy (b. 1969) and Joo Suplicy (b. 1974).

He served in several political positions through the years. Congressman (1983-1987), Councilman (1989-1990), Senator for three consecutive terms (1991-2015). He is serving a second term as councilman in So Paulo.

In 2007, during a senates special commission deciding on changes in the law about establishing harder punishment to youth criminals, he created one of the most hilarious political moments of all time while making a declamation of a rap song by "Racionais", which presents the harsh reality of people living in poor conditions and amidst violence. During his performance, Suplicy made use of the sounds described in the lyrics such as a dog barking and a gun firing, causing the audience to burst into laughter. Suplicy is very good friends with Mano Brown, the lead singer/composer of "Racionais" and even attends their concerts. The "infamous" moment earned the senator a nomination for the VMB, (the Brazilian MTV awards) in the Best Web-Video category.
