English writer, broadcaster and newspaper columnist of Latvian-Jewish ancestry. Educated at St. Johns College Oxford, he began his working life as a barrister. He was employed as a BBC staff producer during World War II and later became known as the host of the three-reel crime series Scotland Yard and Scales of Justice, filmed at Merton Park Studios in the 1950s and 60s.
In the 1950s attempted to woo the actress Miriam Karlin, the attention was not returned.
Professor of cello at Scripps College in Claremont, California, who was himself a pupil of Emanuel Feuermann.
