He was a member of Orson Welles Mercury Theatre group, and appeared in many Welles productions on the radio.
Played the policeman Raoul in Nelson Eddy - Claude Rains version of Phantom of the Opera , but better known for his suave villainy in fantasy costumers, often starring Jon Hall. He had one Shakespearean role on film - Banquo in the Orson Welles "Macbeth". His portrayal is often cited as the best of the supporting performances in that film.

Played "The Saint" Simon Templar on radio in 1945.
