Biography

Eddie Romero, who initially used the screen name 'Enrique Moreno' early in his directing career, was born July 7 1924 in Dumaguete City. He is the son of Pilar Cinco, a school teacher, and José E. Romero, a former congressman, Secretary of Education, and Philippine Ambassador to London. He was married to Carolina Gonzales, with whom he had three children, including film director 'Joey Romero : Ancel and Leo Romero, who have wives and live in the United States.

"Enrique Moreno" is the earlier screen name of director Eddie Romero.

During the early 1950s, became known as the director of the Magalona-Duran films: Always, Kay Ganda Mo , Sa Piling Mo , Kasintahan sa Pangarap and Ang ating pag-ibig .

Son of Pilar Sinco, a school teacher, and Jos E. Romero, a former congressman, Secretary of Education, and Philippine Ambassador to Spain.

Married to Carolina Gonzales. They have three children, including film director Joey Romero. Actress Chanda Romero , is also a niece.

Major influences in his filmmaking style were Gerardo de Leon , and Japanese filmmaker Yasujir Ozu.

Has won five screenplay awards from the Film Academy of Movie Arts & Sciences (FAMAS) for the films Buhay alamang (1952) , Aguila , The Passionate Strangers , Durugin si Totoy Bato and Ang Padrino , elevating him to the FAMAS "Hall of Fame."

He made many international films for Hemisphere Productions, including Day of the Trumpet, aka The Day of the Trumpet , and Terror Is a Man .

As a young teenager, he was selling short stories to the Phillipines Free Press.

He sold his first story at the age of 12.

After director Gerardo de Leon read some of Romeros stories, he contacted him and talked him into writing some screenplays. This was the start of Romeros involvement in the movie industry.

Although he is a native of the Philippines, he does not speak nor understand Filipino. His writings and screenplays must be translated.
