After playing the rebellious son-in-law Michael on "Ein Herz und eine Seele" , the Geman version of "All in the Family" s Michael Stivic, he became one of the most popular TV actors.
Although best known as comedian, he was a versatile actor, who liked to play bad guys in hit shows such as "Derrick" .
Wrote singer Herbert Grnemeyer s hit "Currywurst".
Had two sons with his wife Bettina, Moritz (born on 28 September 1979) and Till(born in 1986).
Reached #3 in Germanys Single Charts with the song "Ich bin der Martin, ne (Martin, my love)", dealing with his longtime stage character "Martin", an environment activist.
Is interred in the Ostfriedhof in his hometown Essen.
