Deborah Jean Smith Ford has noted in the past that she is related to U.S. President Martin Van Buren. The source of this information, at the time, was given to her throughout her life by her father Richard Charles Smith, as he said, such info was stated in the family Bible, plus he was told he was (related to Van Buren). To help alleviate any doubt, Ford had her DNA tested. As of November 2015, a combination of the test results and diligent research by daughter Courtney Patterson Ford Baldwin, has proven that indeed Van Buren and Ford, as well as her blood family, are related to Martin Van Buren. In the meantime, it has been indicated that Van Buren was also a cousin to other past presidents. They were Theodore and Franklin Roosevelt, thus that makes Ford, and kin, also related (to three U.S. presidents). For curiosity sake concerning the Van Buren and Roosevelt tie just Google it!.
