He and his ex-girlfriend, Anna Friel , became The Faces Of Mulberry in Spring 2002.

Was originally considered for the role of Professor Quirrell in Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone . He later got the role of Professor Lupin in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban .

Graduated from The Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London, England in 1984.

Turned down the role of Simon Gruber in Die Hard with a Vengeance , which was later given to Jeremy Irons.

During the filming of The Island of Dr. Moreau , he fell off a horse and broke his leg.

Because he had such a bad experience working on The Island of Dr. Moreau , he vowed never to see the final product. He skipped the opening premiere.

He was in a relationship with actress Anna Friel from 2001 - 2010. They have a daughter, Gracie Ellen Mary Thewlis, born on July 9, 2005.

Hed been considered for the role of "Montgomery" in The Island of Dr. Moreau then, as filming was due to start, he was cast as "Edward Douglas", replacing Rob Morrow , whod dropped out.

The lifestyle I have now, and the opportunities I have had, are all down,to Mike [Leigh] getting me on board in Naked. After Cannes, my agent,told me to get the next flight to LA. He was right. I had a part in,Prime Suspect 3 by the end of the week.

I keep myself content by doing lots of different stuff and make sure,that my next role is completely different to the last. I just enjoy the,versatility of it, the challenge of doing lots of different things. It,keeps the job interesting.

When you do something well, this is the best job in the world.
