Biography

Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach was a German musician and composer, the second of five sons of Johann Sebastian Bach and Maria Barbara Bach. He was one of the founders of the Classical style, composing in the Rococo and Classical periods. Two of his brothers are Wilhelm Friedemann Bach and Johann Christian Bach.

Godson of Georg Philipp Telemann.

The influence of his "Essay on Keyboard Instruments" was unsurpassed for two generations. Joseph Haydn called it "the school of schools". Of it, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart said "He is the father, we are the children." Ludwig van Beethoven recommended it to his pupil, Carl Czerny.
