Biography

Canadian rock singer, guitarist and photographer (b. November 5, 1959, Ontario). His recording debut was at the age of 15 with the glam rock band Sweeney Todd. Adams' solo debut single was actually disco-styled, a fact generally glossed over in view of his later (and enormously successful) rockstar career.

Bryan, Robert John Lange and Michael Kamen wrote a song for the comedy film 101 Dalmatians . However, the song was not used in the film, but is available on Adams album "18 Til I Die".

Is a vegan.

He may be Canadas most successful pop/rock singer, but his parents were both British citizens and he currently resides in Britain. However, he still has a studio in Canada.

His fourth album, "Reckless", is the best-selling Canadian album of all time. He received the Diamond Sales Award (equivalent of a platinum award in the United States) for the album, a first for a Canadian.

Has been nominated for 17 Grammy Awards.

His 1991 album was declared "non-Canadian" at the time, because some of the songs were co-authored by R.J. Lange, whos British. The regulations later changed and "Waking Up the Neighbours" was declared a Canadian album.

Refuses to attend the Juno Awards (Canadas equivalent of the Grammys) because they, according to his manager, Bruce Allen, "turned their back on the biggest thing to come out" of Canada (referring to Adams hit "(Everything I Do) I Do It for You").

In 1976, he joined replaced the lead singer of a band called Sweeney Todd. He recorded several songs for them before leaving the band in 1977. On those recordings, his voice was speeded up so this did not sound so raspy.

Of his #1 hits, only one ("Heaven") was not written for a motion picture.

The title theme to the film A Night in Heaven was recorded at the time of the films release and, at the time, his third album, "Cuts Like a Knife", yielded several Top 10 hits. The song was later included in his fourth album, "Reckless" , which later became a Top 10 hit. The same album also has a duet with Tina Turner titled "Its Only Love".

Had a number one single for 16 weeks (4 months) in Britain with "(Everything I Do) I Do It for You", the longest unbroken run of any single release in the UK to date.

Shares the same birthday (November 5th) as Ryan Adams.

By coincidence, a high school in Dallas, Texas, bears his name. Bryan Adams High School (named after a Dallas community figure) was opened in 1957, two years before the Canadian singers birth.

He was awarded the CM (Member of the Order of Canada) on April 20, 1990 and the CO (Officer of the Order of Canada) on May 6, 1998 for his services to music.

Recorded "(Everything I Do) I Do It for You" in Spanish.

Attended the same high school as Michael J. Fox in Vancouver.
