Daughter of John Raitt and Marjorie Haydock.

(21 February 1990) Dominated the Grammy ceremonies in Los Angeles, winning four awards for her tenth album: Album of the Year (for "Nick of Time"); Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female; Best Rock Vocal Performance, Female, and Best Traditional Blues Recording (for her duet with John Lee Hooker : "Im in the Mood").

Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000 and the Blues Hall of Fame in 2010.

Announced plans to divorce Michael OKeefe on November 9, 1999.

Her older brother Steven James Raitt (born June 19, 1947) died after an eight-year battle with brain cancer on April 4, 2009 in Rio Linda, California. A talented musician himself, he was a member of a group called the T.C. Jammers.

Her nephew is the special effects modeler-animator Bay Raitt , creator of the character Gollum in the Lord of the Rings movies.
