Father, with actress Barbara Hale , of virtual look-alike son, actor William Katt.

Father of Jody Katt (b. 1947) and Juanita Katt (b. 1953).

He turned down the lead in the adventure series "Sea Hunt" , which eventually went to Lloyd Bridges , because he didnt think an underwater show would work well on TV. After the show became a hit with Bridges, Bill decided to try a water-themed series of his own, but it was short-lived.

Died performing a routine stunt with a colleague during The Hallelujah Trail production. The stunt called for Williams and fellow-rider to guide a horse-drawn wagon toward a cliff. As the horses separated, both men were supposed to jump clear as the wagon continued on over the cliff. Williams did not manage to jump clear and so perished performing the stunt.

Korean War veteran.

Umpired the 1981 National League Division Series, four National League Championship Series (1972, 1975, 1978, 1982), three World Series (1970, 1976, 1985), and three All-Star Games (1965, 1973, 1979).
