Biography

Pressburger participated in productions of over 200 films in Hollywood, Austria, Germany, France and Britain. He began producing films in 1909 in Austria and moved to Germany in 1925 and in 1930 to Great Britain. He founded the British-Cine Alliance in 1934 and in 1941, formed Arnold Productions for United Artists release.

He was the father of producer Fred Pressburger.

His son Fred Pressburger (1915 - 1998) was also active in the film business.

Arnold Pressburger fled to England and later he via France to the USA. During his time in England and France he produced some more movies. When he arrived in Hollywood in 1941 he founded the "Arnold Pressburger Films" and was able to realise some more productions.

He continued his career as a producer in Austria in the 20s, new for "Sascha Film" which took over his own company in 1918.

Arnold Pressburger went to Berlin where he founded the "F.P.G. GmbH". With this company he produced movies till 1930 like "Der Geisterzug" , "Der frhliche Weinberg" , "The Wrecker - Der Wrger" and "Das Land ohne Frauen". Afterwards Arnold Pressburger worked for his newly founded "Allianz-Tonfilm" and later he worked for the Ufa as well as for his "Cine-Allianz Tonfilm GmbH".

Till to his eviction from Germany and the expropriation of his company in 1935 because of his Jewish ancestry he produced the movies "Dolly macht Karriere" (1930), "Danton" , "Berlin - Alexanderplatz" , "Die englische Heirat" and "Mazurka" (1935).

Arnold Pressburger did not experience the end of his last produced movie "Der Verlorene" directed by Peter Lorre. He died during the shooting at the age of 65.

The producer Arnold Pressburger began his cinematical career as a film distributor with his own company "Philipp & Pressburger" which he carried successfully since 1911.

Arnold Pressburger became an important movie producer from the second half of the 10s.
