In 1942 17-year-old Amparito Rivelles and her "Malvaloca" costar Alfredo Mayo, aged 31, became engaged and were about to marry. Amparitos mother, actress Mara Fernanda Ladrn de Guevara, was firmly against it. Only 5 days before the wedding Amparo decided not to go on. " Ive followed my mothers advice and I wont be married so young", she declared. "Furthermore, Alfredo is such a handsome man that I would be always jealous beside him. He has been my first and only official boyfriend, but the wedding has been suspended five days before it takes place. And I dont regret it".
