At 15, when she was a high school junior at St. Scholasticas College Marikina, Philippines, she won the Miss Hawaiian Tropic pageant. She represented the Philippines in the finals in Daytona Beach, Florida.

In 1994, when she was a tourism major at the University of Santo Tomas, she joined the Binibining Pilipinas beauty pageant and became one of the title holders, together with Charlene Gonzales , who was crowned Binibining Pilipinas Universe.

She competed in the Miss International tilt in Tokyo, Japan and made it to the top 10 finalists and also won Miss Friendship in 1994.

In high school, Alma was a member of the drama club. At 14, she joined PETA and became part of the legitimate stage.

Her ultimate dream is to write her own book.
