Father of Claudia Golling
Director of the Bayerisches Staatsschauspiel, Munich (1938-1945).
German character actor, on stage from 1924. An ardent Nazi sympathiser, he was given an acting ban during post-1945 de-nazification and not permitted to perform until 1950.
The actor Alexander Golling began his theater career in Munich from 1924 and gave guest performances in Heidelberg, Leipzig and Berlin in the following years.
His career ended slowly in the 70s.
Golling was a member of the Nazi Party.
During the wartime he only appeared seldom in front of the camera. His main activity was clearly aimed at the theater in those years, he also was director of the Bavarian Staatsschauspiel from 1938 to 1945.
As a sympathizer of the National Socialists he became the nickname "the brown theater prince of Munich", for which he was blamed after the war.
His career got only slowly started after the war, his past during the wartime was a great handicap.
From 1935 he became soon established as a popular support actor (often as a villain) in movies.
He was able to gain a foothold again in the 50s and impersonated numerous support roles in popular productions.
