Biography

Alex Weight has spent more than 18 years working professionally in 3D Animation. Following four years studying Fine Arts at Sydney's National Art School and the prestigious Julian Ashton College. A 6-month traineeship with Disney helped launch him into his professional career and he began working in computer animation at Brilliant Interactive Ideas in Sydney in 1997. Alex moved into 3D animation for commercials working in San Francisco and Sydney for several years before joining Sydney's Animal Logic to work on "The Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course". In 2003, Alex joined Rising Sun Pictures as a Senior Animator on "George of the Jungle 2" before returning to Animal Logic in 2004 to join the production of the Oscar-winning "Happy Feet" where he was quickly promoted to Lead Animator. Following the success of "Happy Feet", Alex was invited to mentor the graduating year of students in Animation & Media Studies at the Australian Film Television & Radio School before returning to Animal Logic to accept the role of Animation Supervisor on "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole". Alex then moved to Flying Bark to work on the tv series "The Woodlies" as Animation Director for 24 x 30 minutes episodes. While this was in production, Alex worked closely with the writers for "Blinky Bill" and wrote the treatment that eventually got green lit. He was then asked to head up the project as Director. Most recently Alex has written and directed a live action short horror film called "Prank", and is working as the Writer/Director for two animated features in China. Alex lives in Sydney, Australia with his wife and two children.
