About Louis Abbiate

1866 (Monaco) - 1933 (Vence). Abbiate was a cellist and a composer. Well-known around Europe for his virtuosity on the cello, he was regarded as "le Paganini du violoncelle". He failed to have the same succes as a composer, and after his "Concerto pour violoncelle et orchestre" (1895) wasn't well received in Paris, he did not return to that city. Other notable works are his piano sonates and extensive chamber music for cello.
