Australian songwriter, guitarist and vocalist for Australian synthpop band Boxcar and along with Noel Burgess makes up the duo that is, Gridlock. David Smith formed Boxcar in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, in 1986. The band continuously performed live but in a rock-dominated Australia, success was hard to come by. The group recorded some cassettes before signing with Volition in 1988. Voliton released Boxcar's first single, "Freemason," later that year and soon became a smash hit in the clubs.
