Watching two episodes of "Wallander" makes me think of Isabelle Huppert's line in Hal Hartley's great "Amateur": "everything I write comes out sad. Why do you think that is?
A beautiful small town full of psychopathic mass killers, brought to justice by a grumpy middle aged detective - no, it's not 'Inspector Morse', but 'Wallender', the British programme's Swedish equivalent. And whereas in every Morse story, the lead detective fell for a woman who turned out to be involved in the murders, here (on the evidence of the two stories recently shown on British television) every murder in some way involves Wallender's daughter.
If you feel like committing suicide, this might help you to see that others have it much worse than you do. This is a very dark and depressing ride into the dark side of humanity.
Very glad to learn Ingeborga Dapkunaite is returning for the fourth season .. hopefully she can rescue him..
Another great, yet underrated, production of the BBC Mystery Series. All the necessary elements are present in this series.
If you like the genre, you will be absolutely astonished and overwhelmed by these 4 series of BBC TV production of Inspector Wallander, based on the brilliant and highly appreciated novels written by the gifted and much loved Swedish writer Henning Mankell, whom I personally sadly and deeply miss, since the very first day after his death. It is a very high quality product, from every point of view.
I won't get into too much comparison between the BBC version and the Swedishversion. They both have their strengths.
I enjoy all crime dramas, and I did enjoy watching Wallander. However I feel the part of Kurt Wallander was wrongly cast.
Kurt Wallander (Kenneth Branagh) is a police detective in Ystad, Sweden. He struggles with his inner demons as he solves disturbing crimes.
