This was originally a TV pilot meant to be shown on network prime time but the three regular TV networks that existed at the time only wanted to show it on late night so it was no go. Eventually, some of it was used as part of the feature called The Three Stooges in Orbit with many of the scenes from this pilot shown in black and white instead of the color this one was shot in.
