Joe Warr (Clive Owen) is a sportswriter who suffers his wife's death. All of a sudden, he's left with two boys to raise.

This movie was surprisingly powerful and emotional portraying the impact of the death of a young vivacious mother in the prime of her life on her grieving husband and 6 year old son. Based on the true story of English journalist Simon Carr, Australian Director Scott Hicks changes the plot with the father as an English sports journalist Joe Warr (Clive Owen) who meets an Australian equestrian star competing in England and when he finds out she is pregnant, he moves to Adelaide, Australia and marries Katy (Laura Fraser) leaving behind a young son to his English ex wife and Joe and Katy raise their son Arty (Nicholas McAnulty) in a 19th century villa overlooking a South Australian beach near the Barossa Valley.

I loved this movie, as it seemed to show a male version of learning, learning from reality and honesty about the responsibilities of caring for others - if you've chosen to do it, you have to face what is needed, and try do it, not just wing it, when you feel like doing it.I love the honesty in the film, love how the new growing girlfriend does not put up with him skipping over stages in the relationship and just expecting her to bail him out by helping with the sons when he suddenly needs it.

This is one of the poorest movies I've seen - I'd no idea what it was about, but generally liked Clive Owen, so thought I'd rent it. It's the only film I can remember in which I actually yelled two or three times at the TV screen "End.

Let me start writing this review stating how much I enjoyed this movie. The subject involving a father and two young kids is an interesting subject to me, given that I adore this kind of relationship.

Finally saw this film from beginning to conclusion. Had caught bits and pieces (on Showtime) and it made no sense.

This film is about a husband who grieves the sudden death of his wife, the way he copes and the unexpected complications that follows his decisions."The Boys Are Back" is a touching drama that slowly unfolds but constantly captivates the viewer.

I like Clive Owen and his acting style. I liked the premise this movie starts out with.

I guess anyone can try to get their life story out there nowadays, no matter how boring. The only reason I sat through this dull film was to see if something, anything, would happen before it ended.
