Not a lot of plot, but some. There has to be some, however little.

Carlos Gardel plays Ricardo Fuentes, who leaves Buenos Aires to go to Barcelona to open a tango bar. Gardel sings some beautiful songs "Por una cabeza", "Los ojos de mi moza", "Lejana tierra mía" and "Arrabal amargo", this one as a part of his tango bar show where he even dances a tango with Rosita Moreno (Laura Montalván) in a very elegant way.

I watch this film several times and love Gardel songs, I think due to the time past, there are no secrets about the plot of Gardel pictures. In the top moment of his life as a singer he was called to the EEUU for the Paramount due to the interest his name offered to all audiences in these times.

The story is a Tango. The film alternates between a story about a woman and her choices (then and now) between two men, and with vignettes that show the history of Argentine Tango and how the dance relates to Argentina and its history.

You don't have to be a big tango afficionado to like this film---just a tolerance for the music. This is no action thriller, so just sit back and let the atmosphere wash over you.

You know you are in trouble when in a film, the director includes pieces of other films, including cartoons, of people doing the tango. Isn't that what Ed Wood used to do--incorporating pieces of what he found on the cutting floor to fill his movie?
