Goofs

When Nicholson guns down the bartender who had just been talking to Terry, the baseball bat the bartender is holding while being shot varies from being shot to pieces to being back in one piece again between shots.

In the final shoot-out, when Noonan jumps over the bar he is seen about to fall backside down, but when seen landing on the backside of the bar he lands face down.

When Terry and Kate meet in the bar with Jackie, Terry is smoking.

The smoke can be seen when the shot is on Kate but there is no smoke when the shot is on Terry.

This repeats throughout the scene as the camera cuts to each character.

During the final shootout in the bar, the slide locks back on Frankie's gun.

After he's shot, he falls to the ground revealing the slide forward.

Not such a big deal in itself but the slide locking back was really illuminated during the previous scene.

The NY State vehicle registration and inspection stickers disappear and reappear from the driver's side of Jack's windshield; these would not be absent from any car legally registered in NY.

Near the end of the film when Terry goes to Jackies apartment to tell him that he heard Frankie was involved in Stevies death, the Tequila bottle is on the window ledge on its side.

After the scuffle between terry and Jackie, the Tequila bottle is upright.

When Terry and Jackie are shooting at beer bottles on the roof at the start of the film, Terry's bottle is noticeably delayed in shattering after he fires his pistol at it.

"State of Grace", an elegant film noir, delights at every level. I very much appreciate the reviews by Bladeruuner here and the external review by Roger Ebert each reviewer notes the subtly and nuances of this work.

How this film is not mentioned more is unbelievable!!

State of Grace is a masterpiece. This movie is well done because everyone I know who has seen the movie has a unique perspective on the film and what it represents.

State of grace, the morning after. This movie was sort of a surprise for me I looked at its cast and IMDb rating and wondered if I had missed a gem, I had.

State Of Grace is an excellent, powerful and underrated Gangster Film/Crime Drama that combines wonderful, atmospheric direction,a terrific cast,an amazing, gritty script and a outstanding film score. All of those elements make State Of Grace an incredible film that is Gangster/Mob movies at it's best.

Start here: Sean Penn, Gary Oldman, Ed Harris, Robin Wright Penn, John Turturro, Burgess Meredith and John C. Reilly.

Only the fact that Oldman delivers one of his best performances should make this crime drama a must-see. But 'State of Grace' has so much more to offer.

I was in the demographic this was geared towards at the time, and I must say I loved it. I thought the setting, writing, characters, & music were superb.
