Dean is an obituary writer for the New York Times.

Jonathan asks a cab driver to take him to Dean's office on 42nd Street in Manhattan.

The Times' office is on West 43rd Street.

When Jonathan and Sara are in Serendipity the night they meet, their straws keep changing positions as they talk.

Reflection of camera on crane is visible in Bloomingdale's' window during the opening credits.

When Sara is telling Eve that they are going to New York, the tickets she is holding in her hands disappear and reappear between shots.

The ferry that Sara is riding from San Francisco Ferry Building is seen moving left to right across the screen with the Bay Bridge in the background.

This is the direction ferries travel on the way to San Francisco.

During the hunt for "Love in the Time of Cholera", the camera crew is reflected in the black Range Rover that passes in front of the bookstore that Jonathan and Dean are exiting.

While Sara is picking up her bag and Jonathan's scarf at Serendipity, she picks up his gloves too.

Then when she puts the scarf on him, she is no longer holding the glove When Jonathan Trager is lying down looking up at the snow falling, the glove lands on his stomach below his hands, but in the next shot the glove is above his hands, lying on his chest.

When Jonathan is on the subway in 1994, an advertisement for "Jekyll and HydeThe Musical" (1997) is behind him.

When Sara is seen getting in the second cab at the New York airport, Eve's black suitcase is seen in the front seat.

But in the next shot Eve is seen heading to the cab towing the suitcase behind her.

When Jonathan and Halley are in the apartment and the smoke alarm goes off, Halley jumps up, and Jonathan settles himself down on the bed, unearthing the red Bloomingdales bag containing the glove.

When you see the bag come into view, Jon's holding a television remote in his left hand.

When he picks up the bag and sits up, the remote has switched to the right hand.

When Sara crosses the street to buy the Certs, she approaches and you can see the stand employee grab the five dollar bill out of Sara's hand.

When the camera angle changes, Sara sets the five down on the counter, and then the man behind the counter picks it up.

When Eve gets into the taxi outside the hotel, a couple exits the hotel and walks off to the left side of the screen, when the camera comes closer, focusing in on Sara, the same couple exits again.

The constellation Sara calls Cassiopeia is not Cassiopeia.

It's the wrong shape and the wrong number of stars, and Cassiopeia is not so close to zenith in the fall and winter skies.

There isn't enough time for Dean and Jonathan to travel from New York to San Francisco at night and return to NY by noon the following day to attend the wedding.

Typically, the last flights from NY to the west coast leave around 8:30 p.

or so and there wouldn't have been enough time for the guys to get to the airport following the rehearsal dinner.

Also, because of the time delay, they wouldn't have been able to get a flight from SF to NY the following day to make a noon wedding, no matter how early they left SF.

A red-eye would be out of the question, since a red-eye would have left around 10 or 11 p.

the night before - which is when their flight from NY would've gotten in.

Sara has tickets for an American Airlines flight, yet the exterior shots of the plane she is about to board show a German flag and registration number.

When Jonathan is reading Dean's letter, a person in the background can be seen mouthing the words "shooting a movie".

Jonathan Trager ('John Cusack (I)' (qv)) calls Dean Kansky ('Jeremy Piven' (qv)) "Gerald", Cusack's real life pet name for his life-long friend Piven.

In mitigation, this could be considered Jonathan's pet name for Dean, an in-joke rather than a goof.

When Jonathan finds the receipt for the gloves the date on the receipt is in 1990, when he was supposed to have met her in 1994.

Jonathan says that _Cool Hand Luke (1967)_ (qv), his favorite movie, features the "The Man With No Eyes And No Name".

The Man With No Eyes is named Boss Godfrey.

When in the opening scene when Jon and Sara are fighting over the gloves, the older male shopper says that it is five days before Christmas.

However, when Jon finds the receipt years later the date is 12/21 which is only four days before Christmas.

Stars are seen in the Manhattan sky at night.

In fact, New York produces so much light that stars are invisible.

(The director mentions this in the audio commentary.

) When Jonathan and Dean arrive at Serendipity, Sara and Eve are just getting in the cab.

But when the cab drives off, there's nobody in the back seat.

Towards the end of the film a remark is made about "what happened to Spring?" referencing the rather mild weather.

This scene appears to have been (re-)shot during the warmer months as many of the locals in the distance are wearing shorts and T-shirts yet everyone in the foreground has a few layers on (though not too many to appear ridiculous), however it's snowing later that day (or the next).

When Sara is having a conversation with the guy who cleans up the ballroom where Jonathans wedding supposed to be, Sara has a small spot of sweat on the back of her shirt.

In the next shot the spot appears to be much larger.

At the end of the film, the leaves on the trees are clearly green, meaning that it is at least the end of May, yet it snows when John and Sarah meet at the skating rink.

This is essentially impossible.

- PLOTSomehow Sarah manages to board a plane in a US airport without having her personal identification with her (since she has mistakenly taken her friend's wallet).

Without photo identification to validate her identity, she would not get through the security gate.

But the switching of the purses is essential to her finding John's name and contact information.

Reviews

Best ever seen in the romantic movie with an expectation to meet the loved ones... great work of Kate Bekinsale.

A classic Rom-Com with a likeable Cusack and an absurdly pretty, classic English rose Beckinsale. I have to say, if she'd written her phone number on a dollar bill and told me it would be a sign if it ever got into my hands, I'd say "The World's gone plastic sweetheart, thanks for the memories".

Jonathan Trager (John Cusack) and Sara Thomas (Kate Beckinsale) meet while shopping in New York, after engaging in general pleasantries, they proceed to spend the rest of the day together and have a wonderful time. Sara is a big believer in serendipity, and coupled with the fact that both Jon and herself already have partners, she sends Jon mad by insisting that if they are meant to be together then the hands of fate will make it work.

We're supposed to be rooting for the main characters getting together, and see the story as romantic but it's impossible when they are not very likeable. Cusack's character spends his time trying to find this woman he met once, while he's engaged to someone else.

The scenes with Cusack and Beckinsale together work fine. It's cute and that's what you expect when starting to watch a romantic comedy, obviously.

I've enjoyed watching John Cusack in a few of his movies since I first saw him in The Journey of Natty Gann many moons ago BUT unfortunately in this I think his talents were wasted because the film was completely devoid of any real logic? Even allowing for the title Serendipity - who in their right mind would wish to leave Bridget Moynahan to seek out Kate Beckinsale?

Jonathan Trager (John Cusack) is looking for a Christmas gift for his girlfriend. Sara Thomas (Kate Beckinsale) is looking a gift for his boyfriend.

Serendipitified!!!! wat a swt muvi it is.....

I can see why this got made - its one of those movies with a good idea that for me fails in the actualisation. The time they spent together which was supposed to kick off the film...
