One white, one black, one blond - These are the three individuals who make up the "Mod Squad", a trio of young undercover cops who were supposed to speak to the counterculture generation of that era (circa. late-1960s).
I watched this series as a kid.. All my friends did too!
I was to young to relate to Mod Squad when it was on TV but I've been watching it again and I kinda like it now. The show was sponsored by Chrysler and they drive a Dodge Challenger.
Watching MOD SQUAD as a pre-adolescent, this show had sentimental & nostalgic value that almost cannot be expressed in words. This show set standards that were imitated by later iconic 70s, 80s, and 90s TV shows during the Age of Television (when TV was free).
Mod Squad epitomizes the idea of fun and fantasy prevalent in the campiest era in television history. Three young adult delinquents transformed into undercover police officers with no guns, unlimited authority to self assign criminal cases and access to the latest and trendiest fashions, cars and accessories unattainable to your average, run-of-the-mill entry-level law enforcement we assume are not "on the take".
Watching this show as a teenager, Julie was my idol; hip, intelligent, beautiful, with a cool job, great clothes, and hot guy friends.Seriously, Mod Squad was a well-done show with interesting characters.
The Mod Squad centered around three youthful cops, that were recruited to the LA police force in the late 60s. This show was truly cutting-edge as a concept back then.
As I'm re-watching the series on DVD, two things stand out to me:* It's very much of its' late 1960s time with the counter-culture and all. But it's amazing to me that three full-time undercover cops have so much time to not do, well, cop things.
I was a teenager in the 60s. This show was typical of Hollywood trying to keep up with the young and failing miserably.
